Description

Introduction Of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polycarbonate(PC)

  • Carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate composites are carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics composed of polycarbonate (PC) and carbon fiber. Compared with other carbon fiber reinforced composites, reinforced polycarbonate has excellent impact resistance and temperature resistance.
  • 1100CF20 is a carbon fiber polycarbonate, which is a composite material composed of 20% carbon fiber and polycarbonate resin. It is more suitable for injection molding. 15% to 30% carbon fiber reinforced particles are optional.
  • 1100CF30 and 1200CF30 are two different carbon fiber polycarbonates based on different polycarbonate resins, they have different melting indexes. 1200CF30 is more suitable for extrusion molding.
  • INCHR can customize carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate (PC) according to specific customer requirements. According to different application requirements, carbon fiber reinforced composites with specific properties can be designed by adjusting the content, length, orientation, and other parameters of carbon fiber, as well as compounding or modifying with other materials.

Characteristics Of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polycarbonate(PC)

  1. Excellent mechanical properties: Carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate (PC) has high strength, high modulus, and good impact resistance. Carbon fiber has high strength and modulus. After compounding with PC, it significantly improves the tensile strength, flexural strength, and flexural modulus of the material. For example, adding a small amount of carbon fiber can greatly increase the strength of polycarbonate. Compared with pure PC, adding 2% carbon fiber can increase the tensile strength and flexural modulus by 12% and 60% respectively, which can meet the needs of high-strength application scenarios. When impacted, carbon fiber can absorb and disperse energy, giving carbon fiber reinforced PC high-notched impact strength. When the carbon fiber content is moderate (such as about 6%), the impact strength reaches the maximum value, and then the impact strength will decrease as the carbon fiber content continues to increase. This characteristic makes the material less likely to break or be damaged when impacted by external forces, making it suitable for some occasions where impact resistance is required.
  2. Good conductive and antistatic properties: Pure PC is a non-conductive polymer, but after adding carbon fiber, when the carbon fiber content reaches a certain proportion, the conductivity of the composite material will be improved. For example, when the carbon fiber content is 10%, the surface resistivity can reach a level that can be used as an anti-static material. This has important application value in fields sensitive to static electricity such as electronics and electrical appliances, and can effectively prevent the damage caused by static electricity accumulation and discharge.
  3. High dimensional stability: Carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate (PC) has good dimensional stability and low molding shrinkage. During the molding process, the dimensional changes of the material are small, which can ensure the accuracy and dimensional stability of the product and reduce assembly problems and product quality problems caused by dimensional changes. This is very beneficial for manufacturing precision parts and products that require high dimensional accuracy, such as optical instruments, electronic equipment casings, etc.
  4. Excellent high-temperature and low-temperature resistance: PC itself has certain high-temperature and low-temperature resistance, and the addition of carbon fiber further improves the material’s heat resistance and cold resistance. Carbon fiber reinforced PC can maintain good performance over a wide temperature range, and the operating temperature range is usually -50°C to 180°C. In high-temperature environments, the strength and stiffness of the material will not decrease significantly; in low-temperature environments, the material will not become brittle and still has good toughness and impact resistance, making it suitable for some products used under extreme temperature conditions.
  5. Good fatigue resistance: When subjected to alternating stress for a long time, carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate (PC) has good fatigue resistance and can withstand multiple stress cycles without being prone to fatigue damage. This allows the material to have a longer service life and higher reliability in applications that need to withstand repeated loads, such as mechanical structural parts, sports equipment, etc.
  6. Lightweight: The density of carbon fiber is smaller than that of many metal materials, such as 1/4 of the density of steel and 1/2 of the density of aluminum alloy. Therefore, carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate is lightweight while maintaining high strength and stiffness, enabling lightweight design of products. For some fields that have strict weight requirements, such as aerospace, automobiles, high-end sports equipment, etc., carbon fiber reinforced PC is an ideal material choice, which can reduce product weight, reduce energy consumption, and improve product performance and efficiency.

Application Areas Of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polycarbonate(PC)

  • Aerospace field: Carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate(PC) has excellent properties such as light weight, high strength, and high stiffness, so it is widely used in the aerospace field. It can be used to manufacture aircraft fuselages, wings, vertical tails, and other components, which can reduce the weight of the aircraft and improve its flight performance and carrying capacity.
  • Automotive field: This carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic can be used to manufacture automobile parts such as bodies, hoods, seats, etc. Compared with traditional metal materials, carbon fiber has higher strength and lighter mass, which can reduce the weight of the car and improve the fuel economy and driving performance of the car.
  • Electronic appliances: Carbon fiber polycarbonate(PC) is mainly used in electronic and electrical casings, special-shaped materials, mobile phone pressure-holding fixtures, special parts, explosion-proof equipment, and other fields.
  • Sports equipment field: It can be used to manufacture various sports equipment, such as golf clubs, bicycle frames, skis, etc. Carbon fiber has excellent strength and stiffness, which can improve the stability, elasticity, and service life of the equipment.
